Beyond the Rules

You know how the pieces move. You know the rules. You play every day. And the number just won't budge.

The Elephant TrapWhite to move

6. Nxd5??The knight guarding d5 is pinned to the queen, and a pinned piece isn't really defending.

6... Nxd5!This pin is relative. It breaks.

After 7.Bxd8 Bb4+ 8.Qd2 Bxd2+ 9.Kxd2 Kxd8 the queens and a bishop each come off, and White is left a knight down and a pawn up.

The rule says a pinned piece can't defend. Here it can. The course is 30 of exactly these moments.

Stuck somewhere between 1000 and 1600, grinding puzzle after puzzle, guessing right, and still nothing sticks. Below 1200 games end because a piece fell, and there is a module here that trains the check itself. Above that begins the part nobody ever taught you: not what the rule says, but when it stops being true. How the pieces move is not taught here.

Five ideas nobody has taught you

Every rule in chess is a shortcut, not a law of nature. A strong player doesn't know more rules than you; they know when each rule breaks. Here are five of the course's ideas, each with the sentence that says when it stops working. Inside there are 30, all of them advanced principles, each with the full explanation and a position you play out on a live board against an engine.

The ideaWhen it breaks
InterferenceThe block must create an immediate threat.
ClearanceClearance only works if the piece that enters the empty square wins right away.
Quiet moveA quiet move only wins when your opponent has no forcing move left that neutralises it.
Holding the tensionTension is not a value in itself.
Isolated pawnThe only question in these positions: is the isolated pawn yours or your opponent’s?

How you learn here

  1. Read the logic

Every idea is taken apart all the way down: why it works, and exactly where it collapses. Not a to-do list.

  2. Play it against an engine

You sit at the built-in engine and play the idea out yourself, move by move, until it lives in your fingers.

  3. Spot it with no hint

In the practice arena the same idea comes back unnamed and unhinted, exactly the way it arrives in a real game.

This is what it looks like inside

  • An idea page in the course: a rating chip, a solved chip, the task, and a full chessboard.

Every idea on a live board: the task, the rating, and whether you have solved it.

  • The practice arena: three filters, the puzzle counter, and an open puzzle card.

182 puzzles, filtered by rating, by idea, and by what you have left.

  • The lexicon: a filter field and a list of advanced terms in Hebrew and English with explanations.

49 advanced terms, in Hebrew and English. No beginner definitions.

Who this is for, and who it isn't

This is for you if

  • You're stuck somewhere between 1000 and 1600, solving and solving, and the number won't move.
  • You know the rules, and you feel like the strong players see something on the board that you don't.
  • You want to understand why a move is right, not just memorize that it is.
  • You're ready to work on a live board against an engine, not just watch a video.

This is not for you if

  • You're still learning how the pieces move and what the basic terms mean. The course does not teach them.
  • You're rated 1800 or above and already think at the level of these ideas.
  • You're after instant tricks and overnight rating shortcuts.
  • You just want to solve puzzles, without the understanding behind them.

Stop guessing. Start seeing the board.

FAQ

How much does it cost?
The launch price is $12 a year instead of $29. The subscription renews automatically once a year, canceling is one click that stops the next charge, and access runs to the end of the year you paid for. Inside is everything: all 30 ideas, 30 live-board positions, the 182 practice puzzles and the lexicon, with a full money-back guarantee in the first 30 days.
What is an Elo rating?
Elo is the number that measures how strong you are at chess, and the higher it is, the stronger you play. The official FIDE titles (FIDE is the international federation) roughly line up with the rating: Candidate Master (CM) around 2200, FIDE Master (FM) around 2300, International Master (IM) around 2400, and Grandmaster (GM) from 2500 up. Below that there is no official title, just the number itself. Ratings on sites like Chess.com and Lichess run on the same idea, even if the number there differs a little from the official one. This course is built for the 1000 to 1600 range: below 1200 you train the check that stops you giving material away, and from there you move on to the ideas themselves.
I've already tried courses and apps, and I still got stuck
It's not because you didn't try hard enough. It's because everything you tried skipped the part that matters. Apps hand you an answer with no reason, and video courses let you watch from the side and nod along. Here you read the full logic, immediately sit at the engine and play it out yourself, and the practice arena makes sure you recognize the idea even when nobody whispers it to you first.
Why only 30 ideas? Other sites have hundreds of hours
Because hundreds of hours are exactly how you stay stuck. A giant library scatters your study: dozens of courses, opening repertoires to memorize, and a sense of progress that is really just watch time. Here there is only what moves your rating: below 1200 the check that stops you giving material away, and from there 30 ideas with nothing to memorize, each one on a live board you play yourself. A course you can actually finish, because a rating that moves is worth more than a library waiting to be watched.
